As the last full budget before the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for 2024, the Union Budget 2023 focused on the middle class and welfare schemes for the underprivileged. As expected, the government has announced tax relief for common Indians by expanding the rebate limit to Rs 7 lakh.

The finance minister explained this and even said that those who earn up to Rs 7 crore per year do not have to pay any income tax. Along with this, the FM has made various other announcements regarding other sectors. However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was not impressed. The Wayanad MP took to Twitter to take a dig at the "Amrit Kaal" budget, a name attributed to the FM. "The 'Mitr Kaal' budget has: NO vision to create jobs, NO plan to address Mehngai, NO intention to stop inequality," Rahul Gandhi said.

“The richest 1% own 40% of the wealth, the poorest 50% pay 64% of GST, 42% of young people are unemployed – but the Prime Minister doesn't care! This budget proves that the government has NO plan to build India's future,” Gandhi added. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said the 2023 budget was prepared keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections, adding that it had nothing to offer the poor people of the country. He further said that the ruling government has failed to control inflation and the budget is not for common people.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2023 in the Lok Sabha today. It was the third time in a row that the government presented the budget in a paperless format. Talking to a media , the Congress president said that no steps have been taken to provide jobs, to fill the vacant government posts and MNREGA.

"The budget was presented by the Modi government in view of the upcoming assembly polls in three to four states. It was an election speech and they prepared it 15 days ago. There is nothing in the budget for the poor people and to control inflation." No steps to get jobs, to fill government vacancies and MNREGA,” Kharge said on Union Budget 2023.

Criticizing the BJP at the Center for not presenting any vision for job creation, Kharge said the government has failed to fill vacancies in existing government offices.
