CID questions Abhishek Banerjee for over five hours, calls him again on June 14

Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee was questioned for nearly five-and-a-half hours by the CID on Thursday in connection with the alleged signature forgery case. Following the marathon interrogation at Bhawani Bhavan, the investigating agency issued a fresh summons directing him to appear again on June 14 at 12 noon. According to CID sources, investigators were not fully satisfied with several of the responses provided during the questioning and sought further clarification on key aspects of the case.

A major focus of the investigation was the original Resolution Book linked to the May 6 meeting at which several important political decisions, including the selection of the Leader of the Opposition, were allegedly taken. Investigators questioned Abhishek Banerjee about the present location of the original document. The Resolution Book has not yet been recovered despite searches conducted at multiple locations, including the party headquarters and premises on Camac Street. The whereabouts of the document remained unclear after Thursday's interrogation.

CID officials also questioned him regarding the attendance of MLAs at the May 6 meeting. Party records reportedly stated that around 70 legislators were present, while investigators are examining whether all those listed had physically attended the meeting. Questions were raised about the collection of signatures from legislators, the timing of those signatures, and whether any absent MLAs had submitted written notices explaining their absence before the meeting took place.

The investigation is also examining whether established procedures were followed during the process of selecting the Leader of the Opposition. Investigators are seeking to determine whether the decision was taken through discussion and consensus among legislators present at the meeting or whether it had been decided in advance. During the course of the interrogation, officials questioned Abhishek Banerjee on various aspects related to the decision-making process and supporting documentation.

Abhishek Banerjee arrived at Bhawani Bhavan at 5:49 PM and left at approximately 11:27 PM after the questioning concluded. Following his departure, he reportedly went to Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat, where senior party leaders and legal advisers were present. The meeting reportedly focused on legal and political issues arising from the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, CID officials are continuing to examine documents, signatures, and statements collected during the probe ahead of the next round of questioning.
