The monsoon has entered several districts of North Bengal, bringing widespread rainfall activity across the region, while pre-monsoon conditions continue in South Bengal. According to the weather office, heavy rainfall is likely on Wednesday in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri. Thunderstorms, lightning and moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are expected across all districts of North Bengal, with heavy rain warnings remaining in effect for multiple areas over the next few days.
In South Bengal, scattered thunderstorms and rain are expected to continue over the coming days. An Orange Alert has been issued for East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas, where light to moderate rainfall accompanied by winds of 50–60 kmph is likely on Wednesday. Other districts may also receive scattered rain and thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Jhargram, West Medinipur, Bankura and West Bardhaman due to hot and humid conditions.
Weather officials have warned that seven districts of South Bengal, including North and South 24 Parganas, Bankura, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum and Nadia, could experience storms with wind speeds reaching 60 kmph over the next few days. Thunderstorms and rain are expected to continue until Sunday in Purulia, Bankura, West Bardhaman and Birbhum. On Thursday, heavy rainfall is likely in South 24 Parganas and East Medinipur, while Kalbaisakhi storms accompanied by winds of 50–60 kmph may affect East and West Bardhaman, Bankura, Purulia, West Medinipur, Jhargram and East Medinipur.
In North Bengal, heavy rainfall is forecast in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar on Wednesday, followed by Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur on Thursday. Heavy rain may continue in Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar on Friday and Saturday. Kolkata is expected to witness light to moderate rain, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, with the possibility of thunderstorms increasing during the afternoon and evening hours on Wednesday and Thursday.
