In a major administrative overhaul, the West Bengal government has ordered the immediate transfer of 18 senior IAS officers across various key state departments. This large-scale bureaucratic shake-up comes at a critical juncture, executed by Nabanna just ahead of the highly anticipated portfolio distribution among newly appointed state ministers. The strategic reshuffle is aimed at streamlining governance, optimizing departmental efficiency, and aligning top-tier administrative experience with the core development goals of the newly structured state government.
Among the prominent changes, senior bureaucrat IAS Jagdish Meena has been appointed to oversee the vital Food and Supplies Department, while IAS Surendra Gupta has been assigned to head the Land and Land Reforms Department to manage regional land resources. In another significant move, IAS Dushyant Nariala has been designated as the new Resident Commissioner in New Delhi, a key role responsible for managing state coordination with the central government. Meanwhile, IAS Nandini Chakravorty will take charge of the Science and Technology Department, and IAS Anoop Kumar Agrawal has been deployed to lead the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector to drive local industrial growth.
According to the official notification issued by the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department, the swift changes are intended to re-energize the delivery of state public services and accelerate pending infrastructure projects. Bureaucratic experts view this mass reshuffle as a preparatory blueprint by the top leadership to provide seamless support to the incoming cabinet ministers. By placing experienced officials in critical socioeconomic sectors like food distribution, land governance, and enterprise development, the state administration is ensuring high operational readiness for its future governance roadmap.
