A passenger was shot and injured during an alleged robbery attempt aboard the 14604 Down Jansadharan Express on the Mansi–Saharsa railway section in Bihar's Khagaria district on Thursday night. The injured man, identified as Dev Kumar Gunjan, 37, a resident of Godda in Jharkhand, was travelling to Supaul to meet his wife, who is posted as an officer in the Transport Department there. Police said his condition is currently stable.
The incident took place at around 8:30 p.m. shortly after the train departed from Mansi Railway Station and before it reached Badlaghat Railway Station. According to available information, a group of miscreants allegedly attempted to rob Dev Kumar while the train was in motion. When he resisted the attempt, one of the attackers allegedly opened fire, striking him in the chest and causing panic among passengers.
After receiving information about the incident, railway and local authorities arranged for the train to be stopped at Badlaghat Railway Station. Personnel from the Mansi Government Railway Police and the local police station reached the spot and removed the injured passenger from the train. He was immediately taken to Khagaria Sadar Hospital for medical treatment.
Following initial treatment, doctors referred Dev Kumar to Begusarai for advanced medical care. He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Begusarai. Police said the victim was provided emergency medical assistance before being shifted for specialised treatment.
Mansi Rail Police Station Officer Ravi Kumar said police received information that a passenger had been shot on the train and confirmed that the victim was referred to Begusarai for better treatment. Mansi Police Station Officer Deepak Kumar said officers became active immediately after receiving the information, stopped the train, rescued the injured passenger and ensured his transfer to Khagaria Sadar Hospital before he was referred onward for specialised care. The incident remains under investigation.
