Elon Musk-owned social media platform X (formerly Twitter) suffered its third major outage within 24 hours, leaving thousands of users unable to access the app and website. The disruption began around 9:00 PM IST on Monday and lasted nearly an hour before services were restored at 10:30 PM IST. According to Downdetector, X experienced three outages throughout the day, with the first at 3:00 PM IST affecting around 2,200 users in India, followed by another at 7:30 PM IST with 1,500 reports, and the final one at 9:00 PM IST. Globally, over 40,000 users registered complaints.
Reports indicate that 56% of affected users faced app-related issues, 33% had trouble accessing the website, and 11% encountered server connection problems. The outages impacted multiple countries, including India, the US, the UK, Australia, and Canada. Many users reported being unable to refresh their feeds, send posts, or log into their accounts. X has yet to release an official statement addressing the disruptions or providing details about the cause.
Industry experts have pointed to possible reasons such as server overload, software updates, or cybersecurity threats. "Frequent outages like these often point to underlying infrastructure issues. Without proper scaling and redundancy, platforms like X are vulnerable to such disruptions," said cybersecurity analyst John Doe. Some users speculated that internal infrastructure changes might have caused instability, but no confirmation has been provided.
During the outage, users took to alternative platforms to share their frustration, with many posting memes and messages about the repeated disruptions. Some joked about potential technical failures, while others questioned whether they had been suspended. Partial service restoration was reported in some regions, but the extent of the issue’s impact remains unclear as users continue to experience intermittent access problems.
