Rainfall continued across several parts of West Bengal on Monday, with intensified showers reported from Tuesday morning. The deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal, located around 90 km from Kolkata, has led to a rain and storm alert in multiple districts. The monsoon trough remains active, contributing to unstable weather conditions across the state.
Districts such as Purulia, Bankura, Bardhaman, Birbhum, and Murshidabad are expected to witness heavy rainfall in isolated areas. Thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds between 30 to 40 kilometres per hour are likely in several regions. Light to moderate rainfall has also been forecast across all districts of North and South Bengal, with localised variations in intensity.
In North Bengal, districts including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri are expected to remain affected by rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the week. Weather authorities have indicated that rainfall intensity in these districts may increase further on July 19 and 20.
In Kolkata, light to moderate rain is expected on Tuesday, influenced by the proximity of the deep depression. The temperature is likely to remain around 29°C. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea due to unsafe marine conditions. Residents across the state have been urged to remain alert and follow official instructions as the system progresses.
