Two people died and three others were seriously injured after a lorry crashed into a stationary oil tanker on National Highway 31 near Bijlimoni in the Bidhan Nagar area of Siliguri's Phansidewa block. The incident occurred when a group of youths had arrived in a pickup van to repair the oil tanker, which had broken down on the highway.
While the repair work was underway, a lorry coming from behind rammed into the oil tanker and the pickup van. The collision led to the immediate death of two individuals and left three others critically injured. Following the impact, a fire broke out in the tanker, causing further damage at the site. The lorry fled the scene after the crash.
Local residents who noticed the fire rushed to the spot, pulled out the injured and deceased, and helped transport them to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. The identities of the victims and the lorry driver are yet to be confirmed. Police are conducting an investigation to trace the vehicle and determine the exact sequence of events.
