A protest march led by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) turned tense on Friday near Bandel Police Chowki, as BJP workers clashed with police over the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal. The demonstration began around 11:30 am from Canteen Bazaar Mor in Bandel, with participation from BJYM, Mahila Morcha, and local BJP members.
The protest aimed to submit a memorandum to the police, raising concerns over rising attacks on BJP workers across the state. BJP claimed they had already sought time from the police administration a week ago for this purpose.
However, as the rally approached Bandel Police Chowki, heavy police barricading blocked the march. This triggered a brief period of chaos and jostling between BJP supporters and police personnel. Despite resistance, several women from the BJP Mahila Morcha managed to breach the barricades and entered the police station premises to press for their demands.
The party accused the police of acting under political pressure and suppressing the democratic right to protest. No injuries or arrests were reported, though the situation remained tense for some time.
