Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday alleged that the 2024 general elections were manipulated, accusing the Election Commission of India (ECI) of enabling voter fraud to help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking at the Annual Legal Conclave 2025 in Delhi, he said, “We are going to prove to you in the coming few days how a Lok Sabha election can be rigged and was rigged.”
Rahul Gandhi stated that the electoral system in the country had collapsed and alleged that the Prime Minister’s majority hinged on electoral malpractice. “The truth is that the election system in India is already dead. The Prime Minister of India is the prime minister with a very slim majority. If 15 seats were rigged, he would not have been the Prime Minister of India,” he said.
The Congress leader said his party carried out a six-month investigation after not receiving support from the Election Commission. “We had suspicion of voter theft, and we got into its granularity. Since the Election Commission was not helpful in the investigation, we did our own. It took six months, and the things we found are an 'Atom Bomb',” he said. He added that when the findings are released, “you won’t see the Election Commission in the country.”
Gandhi claimed that in one Lok Sabha constituency, his party found 1.5 lakh fake voters out of 6.5 lakh on the rolls. He said similar discrepancies were noticed in Maharashtra, where one crore new voters were added between Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, and that the bulk of those votes went to BJP. “Now I say with absolutely no doubt that we have proof,” he said. He also warned EC officials, stating, “Even if you are retired, we will find you.”
In response, the Election Commission of India rejected the allegations, calling them “baseless” and “irresponsible.” It urged its officials to continue working fairly and transparently despite “daily threats” and statements. The EC also said Gandhi ignored official communications sent on June 12 and did not raise any of his concerns through appropriate official channels.
