A Jharkhand-registered Ertiga car stopped near Makurgram market on the Bankura-Durgapur State Highway, where four young men got out and proceeded directly to a nationalized bank’s ATM. Before entering, they turned the CCTV camera at the entrance away from the door. Once inside, they pulled the shutter down and reportedly covered the CCTV camera lenses with black tape.
Locals became suspicious after noticing the shutter down for an extended period and hearing loud sounds from within the kiosk. Acting quickly, some residents entered the ATM and found the four individuals attempting to break open the ATM machine. They managed to catch three of them on the spot while one fled. The three were beaten by the crowd and later handed over to the police at Bankura Sadar Police Station.
According to local sources, the car had a Jharkhand registration number. Police have taken the arrested youths into custody for questioning. A search operation is underway to locate the fourth person who escaped. The ATM and surrounding area are being examined, and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
