India Bloc protests Bihar SIR wearing t-shirts of India’s oldest voter “124 Not Out” Minta Devi

Congress MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Gaurav Gogoi, protested on August 12, against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar. The protest focused on alleged irregularities and voter fraud in multiple constituencies. Participants wore white T-shirts featuring the photograph of Minta Devi, a woman registered as a voter in the Daraundha Assembly constituency. The electoral roll listed her age as 124 years, and the back of the T-shirts displayed the phrase “124 Not Out.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had previously highlighted Minta Devi’s name during a press conference on August 7, 2025, along with two other voters listed as over 100 years old in the Bihar draft voter list. The Congress pointed out that Minta Devi’s recorded age exceeds that of the world’s oldest verified living person, Ethel Caterham from the United Kingdom, who is 115 years old. The draft voter list’s inclusion of such entries raised questions about the accuracy of the electoral rolls.

Manickam Tagore, Congress spokesperson, said, “Minta Devi is a first time voter and she is 124-years-old. The voters list carries her name as first time voter. We are wanting a discussion on such issues. How EC has become a party to the BJP. The voter list is full of such fraud.” This statement was made during the protest, emphasizing concerns over the Election Commission’s role in the process.

Several opposition parties, including the DMK, Trinamool Congress, NCP (SP), Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction), and Left parties, also joined the INDIA Bloc in protesting against the SIR exercise. The INDIA Bloc has been protesting in Parliament premises for the past 15 days, opposing the ongoing revision and alleged irregularities in Bihar’s voter lists.

The protest coincided with disruptions in the proceedings of Parliament over the SIR issue. On August 11, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other INDIA bloc MPs were detained by Delhi Police while marching from Parliament to the Election Commission office. The demonstration continued amid growing opposition demands for a thorough review of the voter rolls and the Election Commission’s actions.
