Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
A local Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead in the Sonamukhi police station area of Bankura district on Monday night, sparking tension across the region. The victim, identified as 42-year-old Sekander Khan alias Sayan Khan, was the booth convener of Chokai Gram Panchayat.
According to police, Khan was returning home on his motorcycle when unidentified assailants opened fire near the Sicha drain banks close to Chokai village. He was struck by three bullets and died on the spot. The sudden attack triggered panic among locals, prompting a heavy police deployment to maintain order.
Family members of the deceased have accused former Trinamool block president Naseem Khan of orchestrating the murder, alleging political rivalry as the motive. Authorities have sent the body for postmortem and have launched raids to track down the attackers.
The killing has intensified the political atmosphere in the area, with security forces maintaining a strict vigil to prevent further unrest.
