Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday addressed a public rally in Madhubani district as part of the party’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ raising concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. He called on citizens to protect their right to vote, saying, “People must come forward to protect their right to vote and also to protect the Indian Constitution.”
Gandhi alleged that the SIR in Bihar has exposed irregularities by the BJP and the Election Commission, prompting people to refer to leaders of the saffron party as ‘vote chor’. He reiterated that safeguarding voting rights is essential, stating, “People must remember that if they lose their voting rights, the Constitution cannot be protected.”
Highlighting changes in the voter list, Gandhi said the Election Commission deleted the names of 65 lakh voters from Bihar’s electoral rolls. He added that an equal number of electors would now be added, which he claimed would benefit the BJP.
Gandhi also referenced Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s earlier remark that the BJP government could continue for 40-50 years, saying, “Now I realised that he said it because they are involved in 'vote chori' and it started from Gujarat itself.” He noted that neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Amit Shah addressed his allegations of vote manipulation.
The Congress leader further criticized the RSS, alleging that the organization does not respect the Constitution’s guarantee of equal rights for all citizens. Gandhi’s statements came amid heightened political activity in Bihar, with his party emphasizing voter rights and electoral transparency during the SIR process.
