Monsoon activity continues in West Bengal with several districts of South Bengal likely to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by winds reaching 30–40 kmph this weekend. The weather office has issued alerts for Saturday and Sunday as the monsoon trough remains active despite weakening of the low-pressure system.
Rainfall is expected in most South Bengal districts including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Burdwan, East and West Midnapore, Nadia, Murshidabad, Purulia, Bankura and Birbhum. A heavy rainfall alert has been issued specifically for Howrah and Hooghly. In Kolkata, 18.8 mm of rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours.
According to the forecast, skies will remain generally cloudy over the next 24 hours with light to moderate rain or thunderstorms across South Bengal. Weather conditions are likely to gradually improve from Monday onwards, though scattered rainfall may continue in parts of the state.
In North Bengal, heavy rainfall is predicted in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts on Saturday. Rainfall across the region is expected to persist through the day, with chances of partial improvement in the evening.
