A massive fire broke out late Monday night in a Toto garage at Bankada Kabrapara in Howrah district, reducing the garage to ashes within minutes. Several Totos parked inside were feared to have been destroyed in the blaze. The danger intensified as a State Electricity Board transformer stood right next to the garage, raising fears of a potential disaster.
Thanks to the quick response of local residents and the fire department, the flames were contained before reaching the transformer. Officials confirmed that their timely action averted what could have been a far more serious accident.
While the garage was completely gutted, no casualties have been reported so far. The exact cause of the fire has not been established, and both police and fire officials have begun an investigation into the incident.
