TMC-BJP stand-off in Howrah over 'Narendra Modi Football Tournament'; Samik's car blocked

A politically charged atmosphere has gripped Dasnagar in Howrah following a clash between supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The tension escalated during a football tournament named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with both parties' supporters getting involved in a heated confrontation.

The incident occurred when BJP state president and MP, Samik Bhattacharya, was on his way to attend the 'Narendra Modi Football Tournament.' His car was reportedly intercepted and blocked by a group of TMC supporters, including state minister Manoj Tiwary. The protestors chanted slogans and demonstrated against Bhattacharya, leading to a tense standoff.

In a direct response to the protest, BJP workers and supporters present at the event began chanting counter-slogans, further heightening the political temperature. The verbal spat quickly became a face-off, requiring police intervention to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.

According to sources, the protest was spearheaded by TMC minister Manoj Tiwary and his supporters. They reportedly blocked the road, preventing Samik Bhattacharya's vehicle from proceeding. The protestors claimed that the event was a political gimmick by the BJP and that it was a deliberate attempt to create a political presence in the area.

Local police were immediately deployed to the scene to manage the crowd and de-escalate the tension. They had to form a human chain to separate the two warring groups and ensure the safety of the politicians and their supporters. The police managed to clear the path for Bhattacharya's car, allowing him to leave the area and prevent any further clashes.
