Six armed robbers loot 1 crore from HDFC bank in broad daylight

In a brazen act of daylight robbery, armed criminals looted a branch of HDFC Bank in Madhupur, Jharkhand, escaping with an estimated ₹1 crore in cash and jewelry. The shocking incident took place on Monday between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m., in the bustling Madhupur Bazaar area, leaving residents and authorities stunned by the audacity of the crime. The gang, comprising at least six members, held bank employees and customers at gunpoint, creating an atmosphere of terror as they executed their plan with chilling precision.

According to initial reports from police and eyewitness accounts, the heist began when two individuals, one wearing a helmet and the other a burqa, entered the bank. They were soon joined by four more accomplices, all armed with pistols. The robbers immediately took control of the situation, forcing everyone to comply with their demands. To prevent anyone from raising an alarm, they snatched mobile phones from the employees and customers.

The bank staff and customers who resisted were reportedly assaulted by the gang, underscoring the ruthless nature of the criminals. Over the next 20 minutes, the robbers moved swiftly, stuffing bags with cash and gold from the counters and from the customers. They also managed to break into some lockers, fleeing with valuables worth several lakhs of rupees.

Before making their escape, the gang sealed the bank's main shutter from the outside. By the time passersby realized what had happened and alerted the authorities, the criminals had already vanished. Police from the Madhupur police station, along with senior officials, rushed to the spot to begin the initial investigation.

Deoghar's Superintendent of Police, Kumar Saurabh, later arrived and formed a special investigation team to track down the culprits. Authorities are now meticulously examining CCTV footage from the bank and its surrounding areas, hoping to identify the robbers and their getaway vehicle. While the exact amount of the loot is still being calculated, preliminary estimates from the police suggest that the total value could exceed ₹1 crore.
