Man slits his wife and son's throat over domestic dispute in Bengal

A horrific double murder has sent shockwaves through the quiet village of Jamalpur, under the Dholahat Police Station jurisdiction in South 24 Parganas. A man is suspected of brutally murdering his wife and his minor son, with both victims found with their throats slit. The accused husband has since absconded, prompting a massive manhunt by the police. The tragedy, suspected to be the outcome of intense domestic strife, has cast a pall of fear and sorrow over the local community.

The deceased have been identified as Monowara Bibi, 40, and her son, Anwar Halder, aged just seven. The gruesome discovery was made by neighbours on Sunday morning, who found the two bloodied bodies lying inside their home. They immediately alerted the Dholahat police station, which dispatched a team to the scene without delay to secure the area and begin the investigation.

The police have recovered the bodies of the mother and son and sent them for a post-mortem examination, the findings of which are crucial to confirm the exact nature of the assault. The authorities have also detained several members of the deceased woman’s family for questioning to ascertain the state of the relationship between the husband and wife and the potential motive behind the gruesome act.

Preliminary investigation by the police strongly suggests that the double murder stemmed from severe family discord and domestic violence. Initial police suspicions point towards a deeply disturbing sequence of events: investigators believe the accused first asphyxiated his wife and son, and then used a blade to slit the throats of both victims to ensure their death.

The primary suspect, the husband, is currently on the run, and the police have initiated extensive searches across various locations to apprehend him. An unnamed police official stated that the exact motive remains undetermined, and they are exploring possibilities ranging from personal enmity and domestic violence to any other underlying causes that could have driven the man to commit such a heinous crime.
