Metro suffers fault at Tollygunge, services truncated between Maidan-Dakshineshwar

Kolkata's Metro commuters face a chaotic situation on Sunday following a major technical failure that disrupted services on the vital Blue Line corridor. The disruption effectively suspended train operations across the crucial southern stretch of the route, specifically between Rabindra Sadan and Shahid Khudiram stations, creating instant chaos during a busy holiday period. The Metro Railway authorities confirmed the breakdown, attributing the failure to a mechanical fault in a rake near the Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station, leading to a severe partial closure of the city's transport lifeline.

The problem materialized late in the evening, at around 7:00 pm, when a mechanical snag developed in a train operating near the Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) area. Given the nature of the fault and the need to isolate the segment for emergency repairs, the Metro management was compelled to immediately implement truncated services to ensure passenger safety and prevent further bottlenecks.

As a direct result of the breakdown, all trains on the Blue Line have been temporarily limited. Services are currently operating only on the northern and central sections, running exclusively between Maidan and Dakshineswar stations in both up and down directions. This means the entire southern corridor, which includes major hubs like Rabindra Sarobar, Netaji, and Shahid Khudiram, has been taken offline, barring thousands of passengers from completing their journeys.
