IEM and UEM hosts 16th IEEE UEMCON in New York

The 16th IEEE UEMCON (Ubiquitous Engineering and Mobile Computing) conference, organized by the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) and the University of Engineering and Management (UEM), commenced with a vibrant inaugural session at the prestigious IBM Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. Centre for Learning in New York, USA. Spanning from October 22nd to 24th, 2025, the international event marked a significant platform for global collaboration in advanced technological fields.

The session was officially inaugurated by the General Chair, Dr. Son Vuong (University of British Columbia), alongside the Technical Program Co-Chairs, Dr. Phillip Bradford (The University of Connecticut) and Dr. Rajashree Paul (University of Engineering and Management). The organizing committee members outlined the conference's purpose and vision: to serve as a hub for researchers, academicians, and industry professionals to exchange cutting-edge innovations.

The conference focuses on crucial advancements across several domains, including Artificial Intelligence, engineering, electronics and mobile communication, and ubiquitous computing. This interdisciplinary approach is designed to foster synergistic ideas and address the complex challenges and opportunities presented by next-generation technologies.

The first keynote session was delivered by Prof. Shree K. Nayar (Columbia University, USA), on the topic of “Computational Imaging and Future Cameras.” Prof. Nayar captivated the audience by emphasizing how computational imaging integrates innovative optics with advanced algorithms to create rich, detailed, and interactive visual experiences, thereby revolutionizing modern imaging technology.

Following this, the second keynote session featured Prof. Daniel Dongyuel Lee (Cornell University, USA), who presented on “Neural Representations and Geometry in Large Networks.” His presentation focused on the critical study of high-dimensional geometric structures and advanced statistical methods necessary for better understanding and improving large-scale neural network models.

Prof. Satyajit Chakrabarti, Director of the IEM UEM group, highlighted the immense value of the event, stating: "The UEMCON 2025 conference organized by IEM and UEM in collaboration with IEEE at the IBM learning center in New York USA gives huge opportunities for our faculty, researchers and students to present their research work on a global stage and collaborate with Global industry, research community and academic community."

He further noted the presence of researchers from top institutions like Columbia, Harvard, and MIT, and industry speakers from giants like IBM, Google, and Microsoft, affirming that "Huge opportunities generated for thousands of IEM and UEM students in India."
