A young man allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend in Vijaygarh, South Kolkata, after she rejected his marriage proposal. Police have identified the accused as Ravi Kumar Bhardwaj, a resident of Bihar, and have launched a search operation to trace him. The victim was reportedly attacked at her residence, where the accused arrived after conducting a prior recce of the area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting was a planned act of revenge. Police sources revealed that Bhardwaj had previously assaulted the same woman in Bengaluru a few months ago, during which she sustained a head injury that required stitches. The accused was arrested at that time following a complaint lodged by the victim.
Officials are examining whether Bhardwaj travelled to Kolkata specifically to carry out the attack. Local police are coordinating with their counterparts in Bihar and Bengaluru to trace his movements and background. The victim is currently under medical supervision as the investigation continues.
