Lalbazar expands jurisdiction of Alipore, Park Street police stations; Reduces 3 other's area

Kolkata's urban administration is undergoing a significant shake-up as the police headquarters, Lalbazar, has implemented major changes to the jurisdictional boundaries of five key police stations across the metropolis. This restructuring, which came into effect on Saturday, affects the scope and influence of these areas, increasing the administrative importance of some stations while shrinking the geographical reach of others. The five police stations impacted by this major order are Alipore, Park Street, Watgunge, New Market, and Ekbalpore, out of a current total of 91 stations in the city.

The changes were formally approved by the Police Commissioner, Manoj Verma, signaling a determined effort by the police administration to rebalance responsibilities across the city. Under the new mandate, the police stations of Alipore and Park Street have had their territorial jurisdiction expanded. This expansion directly translates into an increase in both the operational responsibility and the sphere of influence for these two high-profile stations.

Conversely, the administrative areas of New Market, Watgunge, and Ekbalpore police stations have been reduced. While official sources indicate this move is aimed at optimizing law and order maintenance and balancing resources, the contraction of their borders has inherently lessened their administrative reach and operational importance within the city's police map.

Specifically, the reorganization involves shifting parts of the Watgunge and Ekbalpore police station areas to fall under the expanded jurisdiction of the Alipore police station. Simultaneously, a substantial section of the New Market police station area has been transferred to the Park Street police station, a highly visible and crucial zone for the city.
