West Bengal climbs to No. 2 in foreign tourism in India, Mamata calls it a “collective success”

West Bengal has secured the second highest number of foreign tourist arrivals in India, according to the India Tourism Data Compendium 2025 released by the Ministry of Tourism. Announcing the achievement, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the milestone has placed Bengal firmly on the national tourism map and reflects the state’s growing global appeal.

The Chief Minister said the revival of tourism in Bengal after the challenges of the COVID-19 period has been remarkable. She attributed the growth to the government’s continuous efforts, expansion of new tourist locations, and a steady focus on improving tourism infrastructure across the state.

Mamata Banerjee stated that her government has diversified tourism in recent years, giving the sector a new direction. She said West Bengal’s culture, heritage, natural landscapes, and warm hospitality have made it a preferred destination for international travellers.

Inviting tourists from India and abroad, the Chief Minister said, “Come, experience Bengal’s incomparable beauty, rich culture, and heritage. West Bengal is the sweetest part of India; its sweetness, the warmth of its people, and the natural beauty are always remembered by tourists.”
