The Calcutta High Court has once again taken a firm stance on ensuring transparency in teacher recruitment. Justice Amrita Sinha has directed the School Service Commission to make public all OMR sheets from the teacher recruitment examination. The court instructed the Commission to upload every candidate’s OMR sheet on its official website by December 10 to eliminate any scope for doubt about the selection process.
During the hearing, Justice Sinha also summoned documents related to the controversial 2016 recruitment cycle. The court directed the authorities to present a detailed list of candidates who were issued appointment letters for classes 9–10 and 11–12 after the panel’s term had expired. The court believes that examining this list could help uncover further irregularities.
The Commission now faces intensified pressure as multiple procedures must be completed before the Supreme Court’s December 31 deadline. Tasks such as uploading OMR sheets, verifying old panels and reviewing appointment records will need to be executed at an accelerated pace.
This order is being seen as a significant step toward restoring credibility in the recruitment system, with the court emphasising that transparency must remain non-negotiable.
