Police bust fake candidate racket in Nadia, gang leader caught taking exam with forged identity

District police in Tehatta, Nadia, have uncovered a major fraud racket involving fake candidates appearing for government exams. The gang’s alleged leader, 34-year-old Arun Sikdar, was caught red-handed while taking an exam using a forged identity. Arun, a resident of Betai in South Jitpur, had reportedly been operating as an impersonator for hire.

Police also arrested two others linked to the racket. Among them is 32-year-old Bidhan Sikdar, the actual candidate who allowed his brother Arun to sit for the exam on his behalf. The third accused, 28-year-old Sandip Mandal from Narsinghpur village in Murshidabad, allegedly played an active role in coordinating the fraud and managing the network involved.

According to police, the gang had a pattern of charging money from candidates and sending trained impersonators to write exams. The arrests were made after officers received a tip-off from an anonymous source. Verification of identity documents and biometric checks exposed the impersonation attempt.

Police said the operation had been running for a long time, and further investigations are underway to identify others involved in the racket.
