Toto stolen by temporary police driver, cops allegedly beaten toto drivers brutally in Howrah

What started as a missing toto in a narrow lane of Howrah Andul's Harekrishnanagar area turned into a full-blown scandal that left locals feeling worried by the very people meant to protect them. Around midnight 1:50 am, toto driver parked his vehicle, stepped home for a short break, and came back to an empty spot. Hours of searching yielded nothing until a friend revealed he had seen a police towing his toto away in Bally area. Yesterday morning Rahul rushed to Nazirganj police station to report the theft, only to be told no toto had been brought in and his complaint was refused.

The truth surfaced quickly when CCTV from a nearby sand godown showed a temporary police driver, named Rahul Sarkar, calmly driving off with the missing vehicle. As per reports, he swapped the toto’s number plate with one from a recently recovered stolen bike to make it look legal. When a group of angry drivers confronted officers with the footage and demanded the vehicle back, the situation exploded: police beaten them brutally with sticks, one driver’s foot was fractured, slaps and punches followed.

The toto was spotted inside Tulip Garden area, reportedly parked there by police themselves, confirms a local woman. Furious toto drivers surrounded Nazirganj police station yesterday night, raising slogans and refusing to leave until justice was served. Howrah City Police insist the toto was seized for blocking the road during a raid on a local liquor den and accuse the drivers of spreading lies to defame them. Yet the questions remain loud and clear from the toto driver's end—why no notice to the owner, why refuse a theft complaint, and why resort to violence? Tension still simmering in the area, this incident has shaken trust in the Bengal police uniform again and turned a simple parking issue into a stark symbol of power misuse
