A devastating fire in the Sawaria village of Howrah’s Jaipur area claimed the lives of four family members late Sunday night. The victims, identified as Bharu Dolui (75), Dudhkumar Dolui (50), Ratna Dolui (45), and Shampa Dolui (15), were asleep when the blaze broke out around 12:30 AM.
The intensity of the fire, fueled by furniture, clothes, and the presence of gas cylinders, made it impossible for the victims to find an escape route. Neighbors rushed to the spot after hearing screams, attempting to douse the flames with buckets and pots of water, but their efforts proved futile against the raging inferno.
By the time the fire brigade arrived and brought the situation under control an hour later, all four individuals had been burnt alive inside their bedroom. While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials initially suspect a short circuit as the trigger.
MLA Sukanta Pal visited the village to offer condolences and assess the situation, calling the incident a "very tragic loss." The local community remains in deep shock as they mourn the loss of an entire family, including a Class 9 student.
