Poultry truck hits private car at Hastings crossing, passenger suffers head injury

An accident took place at the Hastings intersection in Kolkata during the early hours of Friday, involving a poultry-laden lorry and a private car. A family of four was traveling from Metiaburuz toward Khidirpur when the speeding lorry, coming from the opposite direction, reportedly violated traffic rules. Instead of sticking to the left, the lorry driver veered into the right lane, resulting in a head-on collision that crushed the front of the car.

A 27-year-old passenger named Bikash Mahato, who was seated in the back, sustained severe head injuries in the impact. He was immediately rushed to the SSKM Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Interestingly, the driver of the car escaped with minor injuries as the vehicle's airbags deployed just in time, preventing a potential fatality in the front seat.

Following the crash, the lorry driver abandoned the vehicle at Hastings crossing and fled the scene. The Kolkata Police have seized the poultry-laden lorry and are currently scanning CCTV footage from the intersection to identify the absconding driver. Investigations are underway to determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or if he had fallen asleep at the wheel during the early morning shift.
