Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Widespread protests have erupted across Pakistan’s Sindh province after a young Hindu farmer was shot dead by an influential landlord, triggering outrage among minority and human rights groups. Demonstrations have led to major road blockades as protesters demand justice and immediate arrest of the accused.
According to reports, the victim, Kailash Kolhi, was killed in Raho Kolhi village in Badin district. He was allegedly shot in the chest by landlord Sarfaraz Nizamani and died on the spot. The killing reportedly followed a dispute over the construction of a hut on the landlord’s land.
Following the incident, protesters staged sit-ins on the Badin–Hyderabad National Highway and the Badin–Thar Coal Road, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded for hours. Demonstrators vowed not to disperse until those responsible for Kolhi’s death are arrested and charged.
Minority rights activist Shiva Kachhi described the protest as a historic and uninterrupted movement, saying men, women, elderly people and children remained on the streets through the night demanding justice. He said Kolhi’s death reflected a system that protects the powerful while crushing the poor and marginalised.
The victim’s family and community members had earlier staged a protest with Kolhi’s body, after which police assured an arrest within 24 hours. However, days later, the main accused remains at large, further intensifying anger. Several political, nationalist, religious and social organisations have joined the ongoing protests, demanding protection for the victim’s family and accountability for the crime.
