Another fire incident hit Kolkata on Thursday afternoon when a blaze broke out at a chemical warehouse on Bonfield Lane in the Burrabazar area. The fire started around 2:45 pm on the ground floor of a three-storey building located at 89 Netaji Subhas Road, triggering panic in the busy commercial locality.
Following the alert, five fire brigade engines rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations. The Burrabazar area is highly congested, dotted with old buildings, shops and warehouses, making access difficult and raising fears of the fire spreading to nearby structures.
Traders and residents reported thick black smoke billowing from the warehouse, with concerns over toxic fumes due to the chemicals stored inside. Firefighters used foam to tackle the blaze, and while the fire has been doused, officials said it is yet to be fully brought under control and smoke continues to linger, reports said.
