Court sends controversial actor KRK to 3-day police custody for firing at residential building

In a significant development in the Oshiwara firing case, the Bandra Court on Saturday remanded actor and social media personality Kamaal Rashid Khan (KRK) to three-day police custody. The arrest follows a week-long investigation into a mysterious firing incident at Nalanda Society in Andheri (West) on January 18. While KRK admitted to the firing during interrogation, he claimed it was an accident that occurred while he was cleaning his licensed firearm, which he has held since 2005.

The incident originally came to light when residents of the society heard loud bangs and discovered bullet impact marks on the building’s exterior. Forensic experts recovered two bullets from the premises—one from the second-floor balcony of writer-director Neeraj Kumar Mishra and another from the fourth-floor flat of model Prateek Baid. Although no injuries were reported, the presence of live ammunition in a densely populated residential area triggered a major security response from the Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch.

Initially, the investigation faced hurdles as local CCTV footage failed to identify any suspicious individuals or vehicles near the building at the time of the shots. However, a specialized 18-member police team turned to ballistics and trajectory analysis, which indicated that the projectiles likely originated from KRK’s nearby bungalow. Based on these forensic leads, KRK was summoned to the Oshiwara police station late Friday night, where he eventually admitted to discharging the weapon.

The police have seized the licensed gun and are now conducting ballistic tests to confirm the match with the recovered bullets. Despite KRK's "accidental" claim, investigators are probing the possibility of a deeper motive or intimidation angle, especially as the building in question is reportedly involved in a redevelopment dispute. KRK now faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, and will remain in custody for further questioning until early next week.
