Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, the government has convened an all-party meeting on January 27 to seek cooperation and build consensus on the legislative agenda. The meeting is part of the customary exercise to ensure smooth conduct of proceedings during the session.
The meeting, convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, will be held at 11 am at the Parliament House annexe. Senior ministers are expected to brief opposition leaders on the government’s priorities and the proposed schedule of business for the session.
The Budget Session will begin on January 28 with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The address will outline the government’s policy direction and legislative intent ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget.
From the government’s side, the all-party meeting is aimed at minimising disruptions, especially as several key bills are lined up for discussion. The government is expected to seek cooperation to allow debates and voting to proceed without frequent adjournments.
Opposition parties, meanwhile, are likely to use the meeting to flag political and economic issues they plan to raise during the session. These include concerns related to inflation, unemployment, governance and federal matters, with opposition leaders expected to press for detailed and time-bound discussions.
