A tragic train accident claimed the life of a painter on Saturday night in Malda district, plunging the local area into deep mourning. The incident occurred in the Thalipukur village area of the Devtala region under the Gajol block when a passenger train struck a man crossing the railway tracks.
The deceased has been identified as William Sarkar, approximately 35 years old, a resident of Kalkuri village in Gajol. He was the son of Shahjahan Sarkar. According to family members and local sources, William Sarkar was married and had a young son. Local residents said the accident took place around 8 pm when William Sarkar was walking along the railway tracks. A passenger train approaching the area hit him, killing him on the spot. Hearing the sound and witnessing the aftermath, people from nearby areas rushed to the scene.
After the incident was reported, police from the Gajol police station arrived at the spot. Railway police later recovered the body and sent it to the Balurghat morgue for post-mortem examination. The sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over Thalipukur and surrounding villages, with residents expressing shock and grief.
