The office of the Garia Navadurga Puja Committee, which organises one of the largest Navadurga pujas in Kolkata, was vandalised, triggering tension in the area. The incident reportedly took place around 10:30 am, leaving the club office in a state of disarray.
According to the committee authorities, the floor tiles of the office were smashed, ceiling fans were ripped from the walls, and cupboards were broken open. The committee has also alleged that cash kept inside the office was stolen during the vandalism, compounding the seriousness of the incident. The Garia Navadurga Puja Committee has accused real estate promoter Amit Ganguly of orchestrating the attack along with his associates. Committee members claimed that the vandalism was deliberate and targeted, and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Following the incident, a written complaint was lodged at the police station late night. Police have begun an inquiry into the allegations, while the incident has sparked concern among local residents and puja organisers ahead of the upcoming festive season.
