Veteran Nepali actor Sunil Thapa, recognized for his roles in Bollywood's Mary Kom and the web series The Family Man 3, has passed away at the age of 68. He died in Kathmandu while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, where he was rushed in an unconscious state. An ECG conducted at 7:44 am confirmed his death, with doctors suspecting cardiac arrest as the cause, though an official medical report is awaited.
Thapa enjoyed a prolific career spanning over four decades, becoming a prominent figure in Nepali cinema with memorable villainous roles that earned him widespread acclaim. In Indian entertainment, he portrayed Priyanka Chopra's coach in the 2014 biographical film Mary Kom and appeared in The Family Man 3, alongside early work in Bollywood's Ek Duuje Ke Liye. His commanding screen presence and versatility also made him popular in Bhojpuri films, cementing his legacy across borders.
Hospital chairperson Rajendra Bahadur Singh noted that Thapa arrived unconscious, and immediate medical efforts could not revive him. Tributes have poured in for the respected actor, whose contributions to Nepali and Indian cinema remain unforgettable. He leaves behind a towering legacy as one of Nepal's most versatile performers.
