A tragic road accident on Tuesday morning in the Dakshin Barasat area under Jaynagar Police Station in South 24 Parganas claimed the life of one person and left four others injured. The incident involved an auto-rickshaw and a motor van that were allegedly being driven rashly on the same road.
According to local accounts, the auto-rickshaw, which was carrying several passengers, suddenly lost control and began swaying. During the chaos, one passenger fell out of the moving auto onto the road, where a lorry coming from the opposite direction ran over him, leaving him critically injured on the spot.
Several other passengers travelling in the auto and the motor van also sustained injuries in the mishap. Local residents rushed to the scene and took the injured, in a blood-soaked condition, to Nimith Rural Hospital, where doctors declared 60-year-old Rabin Gayen dead. He was reportedly a member of an auto workers’ union, and his death has left his family members and colleagues in deep grief.
