Playback singer Udit Narayan has come under fresh legal scrutiny after his first wife, Ranjana, filed a complaint at the Women’s Police Station in Bihar’s Supaul, alleging that her uterus was removed without her consent as part of a criminal conspiracy. The complaint names the singer, his two brothers and his second wife in connection with the allegations.
Ranjana submitted a written application on Tuesday, stating that she was taken to a prominent hospital in Delhi in 1996 under the pretext of medical treatment. She alleged that during this visit, her uterus was removed without her knowledge or consent. According to her complaint, she became aware of the procedure years later during subsequent medical treatment.
Identifying herself as a resident of Supaul district, Ranjana stated that she married Udit Narayan on December 7, 1984, according to Hindu customs. She claimed that after the singer moved to Mumbai in 1985 to pursue his career, she learned through media reports that he had married Deepa Narayan. She further alleged that whenever she questioned him, she was misled.
In her complaint, Ranjana also alleged that she faced humiliation when she visited Mumbai in 2006 and was not allowed to enter his residence. She claimed similar treatment at her in-laws’ home in Nepal and said she has since been living at her parental house. She added that despite earlier proceedings before the Family Court in Supaul and the Women’s Commission, and an alleged compromise agreement, her grievances remain unresolved.
The officer-in-charge of the Women’s Police Station said the incidents mentioned date back nearly three decades and the matter is under investigation. An FIR will be registered based on the findings, and further action will follow accordingly.
