A married woman in Purba Bardhaman district has alleged that she was threatened with the release of her private bathing photographs and videos unless she paid ₹10 lakh. The incident, reported from the Nadanghat police station area of Purbasthali, has left the family shaken. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the alleged blackmail attempt.
According to the complaint, an unidentified person threw a mobile phone and a letter in front of the woman’s house in the Srirampur area under Purbasthali-I Block on Wednesday. While cleaning, she noticed the packet and opened the phone, only to find several images and videos of herself bathing stored in the gallery. The accompanying letter allegedly read, “Didi, your photos are in the mobile. Take a look.”
The woman alleged that the letter demanded ₹10 lakh, warning that the content would be made viral on social media if she failed to pay. It further claimed that the senders were women who secretly recorded and sold such videos, and that they had informed her before selling the images. The note also warned her against disclosing the matter to anyone.
After informing her husband, a toto driver, the couple approached Nadanghat police station and handed over the mobile phone and the letter. Police have begun examining how the images were recorded and who may be involved, and said all possible angles are being investigated.
