A massive fire broke out on an oil tanker on Tuesday along National Highway-27 in the Gossaigaon area of Assam’s Kokrajhar district, triggering panic among commuters and local residents. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the spot, making the blaze visible from a considerable distance.
Fire tenders were rushed to the scene soon after the incident was reported, and firefighting operations were immediately launched. Emergency personnel cordoned off the affected stretch of the highway to prevent further risk and to allow fire crews to carry out containment measures safely.
Officials said efforts were ongoing to bring the fire under control, while precautionary steps were taken to avoid the flames spreading to nearby vehicles or structures. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained. No casualties have been reported so far, and authorities said more details would be shared once the situation is fully assessed.
