A patient allegedly jumped from the roof of Contai Sub-Divisional Hospital in Purba Medinipur on Monday afternoon, triggering panic inside the premises and raising serious questions about security arrangements at the facility. The man, aged around 50, sustained serious injuries but survived the fall and was rushed back to the hospital for treatment.
Hospital sources said the man had been admitted a few days earlier due to illness. On Monday afternoon, he reportedly climbed onto the hospital roof and jumped. At first glance, officials are treating the incident as an attempted suicide. Local residents who witnessed the fall immediately came forward to help and ensured that he was taken back inside the hospital for emergency care.
The incident has sparked allegations from local residents that no security personnel or hospital administrative representative was present at the spot when the incident occurred. The absence of immediate supervision has led to concerns over patient monitoring and safety measures within the hospital premises.
