Four people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the stretch from Dumdum Park towards the Baguiati flyover on Monday afternoon, causing heavy traffic congestion in the airport-bound lane. According to police sources, the accident occurred around 4:30 pm when an app-based cab carrying a sick patient suddenly applied brakes on the flyover. A car following it reportedly lost control and rammed into the cab.
In the ensuing chain reaction, a Tata S vehicle loaded with goods crashed into an Agriculture Department vehicle from behind. The impact left the driver and helper of the goods-laden vehicle trapped inside. They were later rescued by personnel of the Baguiati Traffic Guard police.
Police have detained all three vehicles involved in the incident for further investigation. The accident led to significant traffic disruption on the flyover and adjoining roads, particularly in the lane leading towards the airport, before movement was gradually restored.
