Actor Mandana Karimi says India “betrayed” her, plans return to Iran amid conflict

Iranian-origin actor Mandana Karimi has announced her intention to return to her homeland, saying she no longer feels at home in India amid ongoing Middle East tensions and social backlash to her political activism. In recent interviews, the 37-year-old – known for her work in Bollywood films and reality television – said she has “packed” her bags and will move back to Iran once the current regime changes, citing deep personal frustration and a sense of betrayal.

Karimi said she supported protests against Iran’s government and became openly critical of its leadership, drawing adverse reactions from some circles in Mumbai. “India has given me everything: my modelling career, acting career, love and friends … but I feel I don’t have a voice in India,” she told media outlets, adding that she lost several friendships in the city after expressing her views.

The actor has also shared strong views about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, describing Iran’s regime as a “cancerous cell” and emphasising her desire for a freer society where women have full opportunities. Her stance comes amid a broader regional crisis following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader and escalating military actions involving the United States and Israel, which have drawn global attention and debate.

Karimi’s statements have sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters highlighting her courage to speak out and critics questioning her views on national identity and loyalty. As the geopolitical situation continues to evolve, the actor’s plans and perspectives reflect the complex interplay of personal conviction, artistic identity and political debate within diasporic communities.
