A tragic fire incident on MN Road in the Nagerbazar–Satgachi area of South Dum Dum, Kolkata, claimed the lives of a mother and her son on Friday afternoon. According to police and local sources, a fire broke out inside a house located on MN Road, prompting panic among residents in the neighbourhood.
Local people first noticed smoke billowing out from the fourth floor of the building and immediately alerted the authorities. Two fire engines rushed to the spot from a nearby fire station and began firefighting operations. During the rescue effort, firefighters recovered the burnt bodies of 75-year-old Rama Sikdar and her 45-year-old son Abhishek Sikdar from inside the house. The bodies were later sent to a hospital.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly one hour of effort using two fire engines. Local sources said the family had been going through mental distress for some time. However, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
