NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
A shocking incident has been reported from the Jagatballabhpur area of Howrah, where the decomposed body of a 65-year-old woman was found inside her house. The deceased has been identified as Durga Mondal, who lived alone in the residence.
Family members reportedly became concerned after they failed to contact her for several days. Her daughters then asked a local person to check on her. When he reached the house, he noticed that three doors were locked from the outside. Growing suspicious, he opened a window from outside and saw the woman lying motionless on the floor, after which neighbours alerted the police.
Police from Jagatballabhpur police station reached the spot, opened the doors and recovered the body. Investigators said the elderly woman appeared to have been strangled with a saree, and a rope was allegedly found stuffed inside her mouth. Although some locals alleged sexual assault, investigators said no evidence of rape has been found during the initial examination.
Howrah Rural Police Superintendent Subimal Pal said that nothing appeared to have been stolen from the house, suggesting that robbery might not be the motive behind the crime. Officials believe the murder may be linked to a personal dispute or old enmity, though all possible angles, including property issues, are being examined. The incident has created fear and tension in the area as the investigation continues.
