Tension erupted at a private hospital in Asansol after the death of a 65-year-old woman during treatment, with her family accusing the hospital administration of serious negligence. The incident triggered protests by relatives inside the hospital premises, prompting police intervention to restore order.
The deceased has been identified as Jamila Khatun. According to her son Irfan, she had been admitted to the hospital after suffering from high blood sugar and low blood pressure. He claimed that the family had taken her to the facility only for treatment of these conditions.
Family members alleged that the hospital informed them about her death at around 7:45 pm. However, Irfan claimed that his mother had already died earlier in the evening, around 5:00 pm, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The relatives further accused the hospital administration of demanding payment of pending bills and refusing to hand over the body until the dues were cleared. Following the allegations, angry family members staged a protest and vandalised parts of the hospital property before police arrived and brought the situation under control.
