Teachers and students of unaided madrasas protest outside Salt Lake's Madrasa Council office

Tension prevailed in Salt Lake on Thursday after hundreds of teachers and students staged a protest and laid siege to the Madrasa Council office. The demonstration was organised under the banner of the West Bengal Recognized Unaided Madrasa Oikyamancha, with protesters gathering in large numbers to press for their pending demands.

The protesters alleged that teachers and students from 235 unaided madrasas across the state have been facing discriminatory treatment for a long time. Demanding recognition of their rights and resolution of their grievances, the demonstrators sat on the road in front of the council office, turning the protest into an indefinite siege.

Anticipating unrest, Bidhannagar Police had deployed heavy security in the area since morning. Multiple barricades were placed on roads leading to the Madrasa Council office in an attempt to control the movement of protesters.

However, the large crowd managed to cross the barricades and reached the main gate of the office, intensifying the situation. The demonstration led to severe traffic disruption in the busy administrative area of Salt Lake, with long queues of vehicles forming on nearby roads.

Police officers repeatedly tried to persuade the protesters to clear the road and restore normal traffic movement. Despite the requests, the demonstrators remained firm on their demands and continued the protest outside the council office.
