The mutilated body of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) booth president was recovered from Haroa, North 24 Parganas on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Moshiur Kazi, was a resident of Gangnia village in Deganga’s Chapatala Panchayat. Local residents of Jhujurgacha village first spotted the body wrapped in a thin blanket discarded by the roadside. The sheer brutality of the crime has left the community in a state of terror and mourning.
The physical condition of the body suggests a premeditated and vengeful attack. Both of Moshiur’s wrists had been severed, and his body bore multiple deep gashes from sharp weapons. His brother, Motaleb Kazi, raised even more harrowing allegations, claiming that the killers poured acid on Moshiur’s face to prevent identification before dumping the body in Haroa. The Haroa police recovered the remains and initially took them to the Haroa Rural Hospital, with plans to shift the body to Basirhat District Hospital for a detailed post-mortem.
According to family members, the nightmare began on Wednesday night around 9:00 PM when Moshiur received a mysterious phone call. He left his house immediately after the call and never returned. When his mobile phone became unreachable, the family launched an all-night search, only to receive the tragic news of the body recovery the following morning. The family remains certain that Moshiur was lured out of his home to be executed, and they suspect a deep-rooted political conspiracy behind the killing.
