In a significant legal development, the Patna High Court on Thursday granted bail to Anant Singh, the Janata Dal (United) MLA from Mokama, in connection with the Dularchand Yadav murder case. The decision paves the way for his release from Beur Jail, where he had been lodged for months following his arrest during the Bihar Assembly elections.
The case pertains to the killing of Dularchand Yadav on October 30, 2025, near Tartar village in Mokama, allegedly during a clash between rival groups amid election campaigning. Singh, named as the main accused, was arrested before polling and remained in custody despite multiple bail pleas being rejected by lower courts.
Despite his incarceration, Singh contested the elections from jail and secured a decisive victory from the Mokama constituency. He later took oath as an MLA in February 2026 with court permission but continued to remain behind bars due to the pending bail decision.
Granting relief, the High Court allowed bail with conditions, including cooperation with the ongoing investigation, refraining from influencing witnesses, and mandatory court appearances when required. Singh is expected to be released within the next 48 hours, while the investigation into the case continues.
