With the Assembly elections approaching in West Bengal, security agencies have intensified surveillance, leading to significant cash seizures across the state. In a key development, a large amount of cash was recovered from Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district, raising concerns over the possible use of illicit money to influence voters.
During a routine checking operation in the Joytala area of Baruipur, police stopped a motorcyclist after noticing suspicious movement. Upon searching his belongings, officials recovered approximately ₹9 lakh in cash from his bag. The individual, identified as Samad Ali Sardar, was immediately detained for further questioning.
Police stated that the accused’s behaviour prompted the search, which led to the recovery. He is currently being interrogated, and an investigation is underway to trace the source and intended use of the seized money. Authorities have stepped up monitoring measures to curb any illegal financial activities ahead of the elections.
